Difficulty and Offroad
During this trip we do not ride at significant heights. The bad slippery roads (particularly after rain) can make travel heavy; however, this will probably only last a few days. About 60% of the route is on asphalt roads, which are often of remarkably good quality. Most gravel roads are also in decent conditions. For a small part of the trip, we ride on more challenging unpaved roads. The quality of these roads is very different.

Accommodation
During this trip we will stay in hotels and tented camps. Some hotels are basic, family-run accommodations but are the nicest options in town. In the Maasai Mara area, we will stay in ensuite safari tents and when visiting the Gorilla’s we stay in a comfortable lodge.

Climate
East Africa has two rainy seasons. In spring from March to May and from October to November in autumn. Since this trip is around the equator the average temperature throughout the year is 30 degrees.

Clothing
Mandatory items include a helmet, motorcycle jacket with protection, gloves, a good strong pair of (motorcycle) trousers with protection or separate knee armour, and sturdy high (mountain) boots. Furthermore, we recommend bringing a good pair of sunglasses, lip balm and sunscreen as well as a helmet with a visor or a good pair of glasses that also protects against the dust of unpaved roads. At some places is can be chilly in the evenings. 

Insurance
Motorcycles have a compulsory basis liability insurance. Damage to the motorcycle itself cannot be insured.

Visa
As we start in Kenya, the process of obtaining an East African visa can not be done online. Kenya has introduced an online ETA system which is very fast, but it implies you have to also apply separately visas for Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. Uganda visas can be obtained online, he others on arrival. Or you can organize the visa via the respective embassies in your neighborhood. You don’t need a multiple entry visa for Kenya, if you return Kenya from one of the other East African countries.

Gorilla permits
